Intent beats volume

The biggest local SEO mistake is chasing high-volume keywords that don’t convert. “Marketing” gets huge volume; “web designer in Winter Park” gets the customer who’s ready to hire. Target intent, not just numbers.

The types of local keywords

Focus on three: service + city (“branding agency Winter Park”), near me (“SEO company near me”), and question searches (“how much does a website cost in Orlando”) , the last of which AI engines love to answer.

How to find them

Use Google autocomplete and the “People also ask” box, check what your competitors rank for, and mine your own customers’ questions. Free and honest beats guessing.

Map one keyword to one page

Each priority keyword should have a page built to answer it , your local SEO page targets “local SEO in [city]”, not five things at once. One page trying to rank for everything ranks for nothing.

Frequently asked

Do I need a paid keyword tool?
Helpful, but not required to start , autocomplete, “People also ask”, and competitor pages reveal most local intent for free.
How many keywords should one page target?
One primary plus a handful of close variations. Don’t cram unrelated terms onto a single page.
