Do reviews affect ranking?

Yes. Reviews are one of the strongest prominence signals in local SEO. Google looks at your star rating, the number of reviews, how recent they are, and even the words people use.

Rule of thumb

Don’t chase a number , out-review your top-three Map-pack competitors and keep the reviews coming every month.

Quality and recency beat a big number

A business with 25 recent, detailed 5-star reviews usually outranks one with 100 reviews from three years ago. Velocity , a steady stream of new reviews , signals an active, trusted business.

So what’s the target?

Look at the Map pack for your search. If the top three have 30–50 reviews, that’s your benchmark , then keep going. The goal isn’t a number; it’s to be clearly more reviewed and more recent than the competitors you want to beat.

How to get more (the right way)

Ask every happy customer, make it one tap with a direct link, and time the ask for right after a great experience. Never buy reviews , it violates Google’s policies and risks your profile.

Always reply

Responding to reviews , good and bad , is itself a ranking and trust signal. It shows Google and future customers that you’re active and that you care.

Frequently asked

Can I get my customers’ reviews removed if they’re unfair?
Only if they violate Google’s policies. The better play is to reply professionally , it often matters more than the review itself.
Is it OK to offer a discount for a review?
No , incentivised reviews violate Google’s guidelines. Just ask, and make it easy.
